Functional Medicine for Families in Colorado, Ohio, and Michigan, Virginia, Illinois & Florida

About Rapha Functional Wellness

We got sick of watching our patients get sicker

For years, we worked side by side in primary care, doing what we were trained to do — seeing patients, ordering labs, writing prescriptions.

And over time, we noticed the same pattern: our patients weren't getting better. They were getting more medications.

With over a decade of combined family practice experience between us, we had the clinical knowledge. What we didn't have was a system designed to find the root cause — not just manage the symptoms.

So we changed the system.

Our story

From primary care to functional medicine — and why it changed everything

We each pursued our functional medicine certifications independently. And when we brought that approach into our clinical practice, something shifted. Patients started getting better — not just managing their symptoms, but actually healing. We started seeing real change.

The body always speaks. We just needed a framework that would actually listen.

When Amy relocated to Colorado in 2022, instead of going our separate ways, we made a decision: take what we'd built in person and bring it online. That's how Rapha Functional Wellness was born — a fully virtual practice built on one belief: your body is not broken. It's overloaded.

Since then, we've both left primary care entirely. Rapha is our full-time practice, our mission, and the work we were always meant to do.

We've been there too

We don't just treat patients with functional medicine. We've used it on ourselves.

Amy Altamash, MSN, NP-C, IFMCP

Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner · Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner

Amy has personally navigated hypothyroidism, weight gain, and chronic acne — conditions she was told were manageable with medication. Functional medicine helped her identify the root causes and find lasting resolution. That experience is at the heart of how she approaches every patient. Amy practices from Colorado and brings a deep clinical background across family medicine, hormones, and metabolic health.

Kristi Lorenc, CNP, AFMCP

Certified Nurse Practitioner · Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice Certified

Kristi has lived with autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain for years — and experienced firsthand what it means to be told your labs are "normal" while your body is anything but. Functional medicine gave her a path forward that conventional care couldn't. That perspective shapes her clinical approach every single day, especially with patients who feel dismissed and exhausted by the standard medical model.

What we believe

Five principles that guide everything we do

01 Disease begins in the gut.

Most chronic symptoms — fatigue, brain fog, skin issues, autoimmune conditions, mood disorders — have a connection to gut health. When the microbiome is disrupted, the intestinal lining is compromised, or inflammation is chronic, the effects show up everywhere in the body.

02 Hormones don't exist in isolation.

Estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, testosterone, thyroid — these systems talk to each other constantly. When one is dysregulated, the others follow. We don't chase individual hormones. We look at the whole picture using advanced testing like the DUTCH test (a comprehensive hormone panel that goes far beyond standard bloodwork).

03 Your environment is part of your biology.

Mold, heavy metals, environmental toxins, and everyday chemical exposures place a measurable burden on your body. That burden shows up as symptoms. Identifying and reducing your total toxic load is a core part of restoring function — not an optional add-on.

04 Labs over guessing.

Conventional "normal" lab ranges tell you whether you're sick enough to treat. Functional ranges tell you whether you're thriving. We use advanced testing — including GI-MAP gut analysis, DUTCH hormone testing, cortisol panels, and food sensitivity testing — because real healing requires real data.

05 The body is the sum of your habits.

Food, sleep, movement, stress, and environment aren't lifestyle footnotes. They are the medicine. Healing isn't a one-time protocol — it's built through consistent daily choices, and we help you understand exactly which ones matter most for your body.
